Working in a busy commercial team, you’ll be managing key metering contracts through their life cycle, from tender through to the day to day account management.  The role will focus on both buying services as well as seeking out opportunities to sell metering services to others. You will be working with our procurement team and business stakeholders to make sure that contracts deliver to required performance levels and ensure that services are optimised throughout the contract life.

If things do go wrong, you will be expected to manage contracts in line with agreed rectification measures and structured governance framework to ensure that contracts continue to deliver in line with our business strategy and customer demands.

This role will manage multiple service contracts covering a broad spectrum of metering services where a high degree of flexibility is required to meet the sometimes complex need to drive real value whilst also meeting challenging regulatory, safety and business targets.

Drawing on your substantial experience of successfully managing high value contracts for both buying and selling of services, the post holder will:

  • Be accountable for the effective management of high value and complex business critical metering service contracts to deliver high performance from vendors.  This will involve complex open book and strategic relationship management.
  • Apply extensive experience of managing metering service contracts to ensure vendors meet critical performance targets
  • Evaluate sales opportunities to ensure they create real value to E.ON whilst acting as a focal point in negotiation and contract preparation.
  • Account manage our sales contracts to ensure that we deliver excellent services to others which realise commercial value to E.ON while effectively controlling and mitigating risks.
  • Work with other business areas to ensure commercial and legal risks arising from sales development opportunities are fully understood and effectively controlled and mitigated
  • Identify where vendor improvement is required, engage with the vendor at an appropriate level (up to Director level) to agree an appropriate rectification plan and effectively control communication in this regard.
  • Draft and negotiate contract schedules containing clear, concise, unambiguous and effective vendor performance obligations to deliver outcomes required by E.ON.
  • Drive vendor behaviour such that the vendor actively seeks to meet or exceed contractual requirements rather than having to be led / pushed.
  • Possess a detailed, expert knowledge of complex contracts that they are responsible for delivering and can be relied on as the key person to provide advice and commercial guidance.
  • Proactively build and maintain strong relationships of influence with customers and vendors to develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of metering services and markets acting as a source of expert insight and advice

What we need from you

  • Substantial experience of managing service contracts, ideally in a utility-based environment.
  • A good understanding of current demand for metering services, both from an E.ON business strategy perspective as well as industry and regulatory need.
  • Substantial commercial expertise and ability to realise opportunities and control risks to drive improved outcomes.
  • Ability to understand complex regulatory, legal and commercial requirements to ensure sales of services are fully compliant.
  • Confidence to effectively challenge poor performance and negotiate improvement plans with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • A good understanding of contractual language and contract law and the ability to draft clear, unambiguous and legally enforceable contractual obligations.
  • Works autonomously to drive required business outcomes prioritising conflicting activities to deliver those which matter most.
  • Have a full driving licence and be prepared to travel to other E.ON sites, third party offices and industry forums on a national basis.
